A CALL FOR ARTISTS
The Tappahannock Artists Guild invites you to participate in TAG’s Summer All-Media Show
“It’s All About Me”

  • Juried show with cash awards
  • Submit up to three works of art that represent “It’s All About Me”
  • Opening reception Friday, July 10
  • State-wide promotion through print, online, and broadcast media

For the show artist should submit original art which reveals most clearly the self of the artist, the personality, vision, insight, attributes which define the artist’s self, the artist’s soul.


RULES and AWARDS

The show is open to two- and three-dimensional work from all artists aged 18 and older.

Two-dimensional works are limited to no larger than 40×50 inches. Three-dimensional works must have a base no larger than 18×18 inches.

All two-dimensional works must be framed and ready to hang from picture molding. Hanging wire must be attached to the back of the piece; no works with saw tooth hangers will be accepted.

All works must be for sale. The gallery will retain a 30% commission from sales of works by non-members and a 25% commission from sales of works by TAG members, with a 50% reduction on commissions applied to award winners.

By submitting artwork for entry, the artist agrees to allow work to be shown and reproduced for publicity purposes.

Three cash awards will be given: First ($300), Second ($200), Third ($100) places. Three honorable mentions ($50) will be awarded. All award recipients will enjoy a 50% commission reduction on sales of their winning artwork.

 

JUROR CHRIS RAPA

Chris is a Maryland artist, living and working outside of Baltimore, and she is passionate about painting. Chris makes paintings to celebrate the natural world, ordinary experiences, and the effect of light. Working in oils, she paints landscape studies outdoors, or “en Plein Air” and still life arrangements, and larger works in her studio. “Through painting, I strive to engage the world, to
be immersed and entirely present in a particular experience, and to create a meaningful visual record. My paintings are my memories; the stories of what I have seen, contemplated, and been thankful for.” Chris has participated in numerous plein air competitions throughout the country, and her work has been included in several national juried shows.

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Deadline for application is JUNE 10.

Artists may submit up to three pieces that represent this year’s theme.

Email high-resolution jpeg images (not to exceed 2 MB) of each piece of work to tappartsguild@gmail.com with “2020 Summer Show” and the artist’s name in the subject line. Please assign each image a file name that includes the title of the work and the artist’s name (e.g., red_tree_smith.jpg). Images must be at least 600 pixels on their longest side.

 

ENTRY FEES

Entry fees are non-refundable.

Artists who are not members of the Tappahannock Artists Guild: $10 per piece; enter three pieces for $25 TAG members: $5 per piece

NOTIFICATION of ACCEPTANCE

Acceptance notifications will be sent to the email address provided on each application on or before June 16, 2020. A list of accepted artwork/artists will be listed on the TAG website.

 

DELIVERY of ARTWORK

Accepted artwork must be delivered to the gallery July 3-6 (Friday through Monday) between noon and 3:00 p.m. The Tappahannock Art Gallery is located at the intersection of Prince Street and Water Lane in historic Tappahannock.

 

OPENING NIGHT and EXHIBIT

An opening reception with awards and refreshments will be held Friday, July 10 at the gallery. Please attend. Friends and family welcome.

Show postcards for accepted artists can be picked up from the Prince Street gallery.

The exhibit will be displayed through August 23, and all accepted artwork must hang for the duration of the show. Post-show pickup or mailing of sold pieces will be coordinated under terms agreed to between purchaser, artist, and TAG.
