Come paint the beautiful Tidelands Region around Tappahannock, Virginia – The Gateway to the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck of Virginia, along the tidal Rappahannock River.
The Plein Air event will begin with a warmup day offering a tentative workshop, painting opportunities and an evening reception on Wednesday, April 10, 2019. The actual event painting days will be Thursday, April 11, through Saturday afternoon, April 13, 2019. However, warmup paintings are acceptable for the Saturday and Sunday exhibitions.
Coffee, fruit, and baked goods will be provided Thursday, Friday, and Saturday mornings from 8:00 – 9:30 AM, at the Tappahannock Art Gallery. Additionally, there will be picnic late Friday afternoon for artists, sponsors, patrons and hosts.
Framed wet paintings will be hung for viewing and “artists’ choice award” by 5:30 pm, Saturday evening, April 13. Following the installation and artist choice, there will be a ticketed closed gallery preview of the framed “wet paintings” by those purchasing tickets, sponsors, patrons and hosts. Those attending the closed gallery preview will then take part in a “people’s choice award.”
On Sunday, April 14, from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM, there will be an open gallery exhibit for the general public at no charge. At 3:00 PM, artists can gather their unsold paintings and other possessions before departing.
The event will host 40 artists, with a registration fee of $50.00. Online registration at this site opens at 2:00 PM Feb 1, 2019, and closes after the first 40 registrations have been received.
Host housing is being arranged, as available, for those who live 30 miles or further from Tappahannock and who request such housing in their registration form. Special rates are being arranged at local bed and breakfasts and hotels/motels.
Optionally, interested artists will receive timely updates to the schedule of events and important event information by sending their name and email address to TAG at email@example.com. These updates will be sent out to interested artists by email and through additional prompts on this website.
In an effort to allay any concerns about your experience, or lack of the same, and to diminish the intimidation factor for those who want to enjoy this experience of landscape painting outside in the field (Plein Air!), we are going to offer anyone who is interested, an opportunity to “go through the motions” of selecting subjects, setting up, and actually painting on Wednesday at 2:30 PM. This will be before our reception at the Gallery, so we will likely do this close by.
If you think you might be interested in this “calming introduction” to the weekend, just let us know by the website email.
Any questions can be directed by email to TAG at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by calling George Jennings @ 804-761-7432.
